Unload the Motherload
“I can’t be the only one to do it all.”
You’ve asked for help.
And maybe they do help. A bit. Or sometimes.
It’s hard to complain when they empty the dishwasher when you ask, take the bins out when you remind them, or feed the dog after you point out that the dog, once again, requires feeding.
But you are the only one who noticed.
You are the only one who remembered.
You are the one who asked.
And quite often, you are the one chasing it up and checking it happened.
Pleading, prompting, begging and nagging your family to do more isn’t the same as having less to carry or do.
Unload the Motherload helps you begin the process of moving the responsibility, not just the doing of the jobs, over to the family you share them with.

UNLOAD THE MOTHERLOAD
I’d been asking for “help” for years and received dribs and drabs, and that was the confusing bit.
Because jobs were being done by other people, yet I continually felt like I was carrying around a massive amount of “stuff” in my head.
It took a while, but I eventually realised help wasn’t the thing I needed.
I had five people waiting for me to notice or remember what needed to be done and to hand out the instructions to do it.
What I needed instead was for some of the responsibility for all of it to stop being mine.
When I went through the process with my own family, they finally understood what I had been trying to explain for years. They could now see all the things I had been automatically noticing, remembering and managing.
And as a result of this method, some of those things became someone else’s responsibility instead of mine.
It stopped being, “Mum will let me know when this needs to be done,” which gave me some much needed space to think and breathe again, focus my attention where I wanted it instead of where the house was demanding it, and allowed our home to function more smoothly.
That is what Unload the Motherload is for.
So, what is Unload the Motherload?
It is a small but incredibly practical and effective product for the mum who is exhausted by being the engine that runs the household and all that entails.
I’ll take you through the same process I used to help my family understand what I was lugging around day to day, and begin changing who is responsible for it moving forward.
It can’t cover everything, and it isn’t a magic wand that will create drastic change overnight. Nor is it some miraculous promise that your teenager will wake up tomorrow consumed by a desire to take on all the things you want to release.
But it does help answer, “Who has to think about this?” and leave you feeling less bogged down, with more space, clarity and conversations between family members around responsibility.
A few things you might be wondering…
What exactly do I get?
A written, self-directed guide that walks you through the Unload the Motherload method, along with the Motherload Sheet to help you capture, organise and begin redistributing household responsibilities.
How long will it take?
There's no deadline. You can work through the method at your own pace and give your family time to understand and adjust to the changes.
Do I need my family to participate?
You can begin on your own. However, showing your family what you're carrying and having conversations about responsibility are important parts of the process.
Will this work with teenagers or younger children?
The method helps you explore what different family members could realistically take responsibility for. Their age, abilities and circumstances all matter.
Will this fix everything?
No. It isn't a magic wand, and it won't change your household overnight. It's a practical way to begin shifting responsibility so you're no longer automatically expected to remember and manage everything.
